Second, they didn’t always. Most key Democrats are on record at one time or another supporting the wall.
The media is doing the usual fine job of promoting open borders. The purported government shutdown is a partial shutdown of 7 agencies, but you don’t hear partial in any media report.
So, here it is in a nutshell. Keep the borders open until another 15-20 illegals meander in from the south. That should be sufficient to make this country a one-party nation like California is a one-party state. Then the Democrats can have power forever.
They can do things they dream of doing like this:
