Obama wants you to pay for your neighbor’s junior college tuition. Just as he had you pay for the new car with cash for clunkers. Just as he had you help them with the mortgage with his failed mortgage plan that he still touts as a success.
Here’s the problem with his plan. The government forced banks to loan money to people who couldn’t pay a mortgage. The government guaranteed the mortgage. Lot’s of people bought houses and defaulted on the mortgages. Hence, the housing bubble and the destruction of the economy. Today, the government loans money to kids who can’t cut it in college. A large number are dropping out sticking you with their unpaid loan. Further, it drives up tuition costs just as it did housing prices. Most people going to college today are getting some type of tuition help. Obama, as part of his plan to offer free two-year college tuition, was going to tax 529 savings plans. He had it set-up so it didn’t kick in until the two he has for his daughters were used. That idea polled so bad he dropped it quickly. If you look at the chart below, done by the Gates Foundation, hardly a conservative group, you see the college population is not made up of rich kids who have trust funds. Actually, the rich kids are already getting screwed. They overpay so kids who don’t have 529 plans and need assistance can get that assistance. They, and the kids who don’t qualify for help but take loans, can pay for the next 10 years. You will hear a multitude of untruths about the need for the Obama plan to screw up junior colleges Just remember, who has already screwed up four-year colleges. Your government. And, keep in mind who is now going to college and how they are paying.
Please note some key statistics from the chart below. First, 40% of all US college students are enrolled in a two-year college. That means Obama wants to give financial aid to almost half of the college students. You think his cost estimates might be off a little? Many kids who choose not to go to a two-year college go into the military. If college is free what does that do to military recruitment? Other statistics that might surprise you. The student population is 37% part-time, 20% work full-time, 83% now receive financial aid, 15% live with parents, 11% are on-line students only, and 22% are over 30-years old. I’ll bet you would have guessed wrong on all of those statistics. I did. Women now comprise 56% of the student population.
