Lindsay Graham is the Bart Stupak of the republican party. Facing political suicide he wrote this letter this week.
Yesterday, Senator Graham sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid indicating that he would abandon his support for global warming energy tax legislation if the Senate leadership decided to move ahead first with comprehensive immigration legislation. Here is an excerpt from that letter:
“I want to bring to your attention what appears to be a decision by the Obama Administration and Senate Democratic leadership to move immigration instead of energy. Unless their plan substantially changes this weekend, I will be unable to move forward on energy independence legislation at this time. I will not allow our hard work to be rolled out in a manner that has no chance of success.
“Recent press reports indicating that immigration — not energy — is their priority have not been repudiated. This has destroyed my confidence that there will be a serious commitment and focus to move energy legislation this year…”
Aren’t politicians so cleaver? Polls show anyone who supports cap and tax right now is going against the will of the public. Overwhelmingly, the pubic is against this. Having spent weeks working with John Kerry and Joe Lieberman on this cap and tax bill, Graham began to notice a peculiar odor. It was coming from him. It was the stench of political death. Like the rest of the scumbags, self-preservation trumps all else. He couldn’t be honest and say, I realize I’m on the wrong side of this issue. Why be truthful, when deceit is so easy?
When Harry Reid, desperately trying to do something wonderful for Hispanics to get the Hispanic vote in Nevada, announced the Arizona immigration bill put this on the front burner, it gave Graham the perfect opportunity to bail and run from his own growing stench. Using Reid as a lame excuse.
The majority of Americans want neither bill. Would you rather die by hanging or firing squad? Obama wants to kill you both ways. So does Reid.
There is good news here. Obama is too arrogant and so poorly advised he will press forward on both. These two nails added to health care reform will insure a solid defeat for Democrats in November. Just keep pounding unpopular programs down America’s throat, Mr. President.
Stupak did what you wanted, and because of him, you got heath care reform. No, he’s done as a politician. Isn’t running again. Graham is smarter than Stupak, but marginally. How many more Stupak’s can you take out with cap and tax and immigration amnesty?
Surely, 40 or more Congressmen and probably 10-15 senators. Too bad Graham caught on , we could do without him too.
