Sacrifices Americans Have Already Made

We are told every day we need to make sacrifices to get things turned around. We need to make sacrifices to save the planet. We need to make sacrifices to help those who need help.

I’m just looking at some of the sacrifices we’ve made. Many families have lost loved ones in two wars that drag on. Other families have lost income, and half the family unity for extended periods while a husband or wife serves in one of these wars. These wars were to protect us from another terrorist attack. Seems like they were to save Iraq from Saddam and Afghanistan from the Taliban. Are we still the world’s police force? Meanwhile we are doing everything we can to reduce our capability to protect us from another terrorist attack.

We have watched our home prices go down by 50%. One’s house is a big part of one’s asset base. Why did this happen? Washington says it was greed on the part of the banks and Wall Street. The banks and Wall Street say it was encouragement by the government that home ownership was an entitlement, and with help from Fannie and Freddie, the government took it too far.

We have watched $14 trillion in stock market equity go away. Retirement plans, life long savings, years of  putting that savings into wise investments. Gone. In only two years. Poof. Two years when the democrats were in control of congress.

We have watched as corporations and small businesses go away. Or, become less valuable. We have watched the jobs go away with them.

Is this what socialism calls leveling the playing field? When no one but the uber rich and the politicians have anything anymore. Are we there? At least half way there. Is this what the far left, the media, Hollywood, the ultra blue states, and Bill Gates and Warren Buffet have been dreaming of for years? When no one has anything of value will we will be there?  Then, we will all have to depend on our benevolent government for everything. For a job or a handout, for subsidized housing, for health care, for retirement money, for help when we don’t know where to turn next.

We’re half way there. When we lose the other half of the value of our home, the other half of the value of our investments, the other half of us lose our jobs, and the other half of the corporations and companies go broke or move, we’re there. The final step to being there will begin when those of us who have dodged the last few bullets will be taxed to pay the interest on the spending we couldn’t afford. Then, and only then, will we all be there.

Is giving up the second half what the request for sacrifice means from Washington?

What kind of world are we creating for our grand kids?

If government is the answer to all of our problems, explain this. Someone sent me an e-mail that asked what was the initial role of the Department of Energy? Can you answer that question? What is that role? I could, because I had to deal with them in my job. Billions of dollars spent on the DOE over the past 30 years, thousands of people employed there, and their accomplishments against their charter?? It was established to end our dependency on foreign oil. Every year the DOE has been in existence our dependence on foreign oil has gone up. Do you understand what happens when government takes over? They have zero accountability. They self-perpetuate without results. Your stamps are going up 2 cents. Aren’t fuel prices down? Why are stamp prices going up? Mismanagement, that’s why.

So, when we have one foot on the banana peel and the other on a big patch of ice that’s surviving global warming, what does it take to complete the fall? How about an $800 billion stimulus package that doesn’t work? How about letting Geitner, a babbling fool, toss another $2 trillion at the banks and they still fail? How about another attack on our shore brought about by relaxation of our defenses? How about all the efforts on renewable energy not paying off and getting another embargo? Based on the history of the Department of Energy, why should any America believe the new effort will do better?  How about 20% unemployment and civil unrest?

When you are half way there it doesn’t take much to fall the rest of the way.

It’s more fun to watch the train wreck than to crawl out of it. As more and more of us are finding ourselves in the wreck, more and more are getting involved. Hopefully, we can get the train back on the tracks.

But, it’s half time now and the clock is running. Blind faith in failed ideas is probably not going to get it done.
