The very next day after President Obama’s stirring message at the Tucson Memorial Service, the Arizona Republic published this Steve Benson political cartoon.
This is just another indication of the media’s effort to make a tragedy into an opportunity to create the next tragedy.
The president could not have been plainer in his plea to listeners when he said we” cannot use this tragedy as one more occasion to turn on each other.” While some in the media heard the message and the efforts to blame the shootings on ideology stopped with them, others like the USA Today and the Arizona Republic will not only choose to keep pushing this theme, but use the most disgusting cartoon I’ve ever seen to make sure we all see how very ignorant they really are.
Look at this cartoon. Is the newspaper trying to get another mentally ill person to attack Sarah Palin? How do you blame political rhetoric for the Tucson affair then publish this?
This is just about as disgusting as it gets in the media today.
