Last week was spent in northern Michigan on beautiful Walloon Lake with 11 family members. We rented a place with  three TV’s. Not once did anyone turn on a single TV.  Only once did I glimpse a newspaper. That was a USA Today my wife bought which is a left-wing version of a McDonald’s drive through.

Occasionally someone who was checking their phone would mention a piece of news from the outside world, like the latest Patrick Kane(Blackhawk hockey star) shenanigan, the rape investigation in his home in New York state.

We spent our time on the lake on a  speedboat, pontoon boat, or wave runner. Skiing, tubing, fishing, or just enjoying the multi-million dollar cottages on the lake that go back many generations.  The air was fresh and the conversation around the fire-pit at night was never too serious. It was like a trip back in time. All the way back to when I was a kid on a family vacation on near-by Burt Lake. The occasion was our fiftieth wedding anniversary celebration and the family did us proud with a surprise renewal of the vows with them conducting the ceremony. It was a beautiful week.

Ernest Hemmingway grew up on Walloon Lake and his family cottage is still there. He claimed the fishing was good, but you can’t prove it by me.

Never once did I feel I was missing anything from the outside world. that includes the Republican presidential debates.  It was detox at it’s finest.

So, this blog reflects all the  news I have to report about the state of the country and the world.
