David Letterman is a sleazy hypocrite. In recent years he has made his so-called comedy show into a political platform. He is still telling Bush jokes since he can’t tell an Obama joke.
This was a bad week for President Obama. He went to Denmark to plead the case for Chicago to get the 2016 Olympics. They were voted out in the first round. Then his good pal, Letterman, confessed to his audience that he had a series of affairs with his staff. His style was to give his confession without cuing the audience it wasn’t a joke. They laughed during most of the confession waiting for the punch line. So, the king of bad taste makes a joke out of sexual harassment. A producer for 48 Hours was trying to extort money from old Dave and must have had lots of evidence.
So, the man who felt comfortable making a joke of ARod getting Sarah Palin’s 14 year old daughter pregnant just because she attended a Yankee game with her mom, is now on the hot seat again. In the same week many from Hollywood came to the defense of Roman Polanski to keep him from being incarcerated for having sex with a 13 year old girl he drugged. Is there ever any better example of how out of step Hollywood is with most of America? Surly they will come to Dave’s defense for repeated cases of sexual harassment.
Here’s how I see this playing out. CBS will say nothing. Some or all of the women will come forward and file charges against Dave for sexual harassment. He will end up paying several million in settlements. Then, and only then, will CBS fire old Dave. And then, and only then, will most of us who felt they should have fired Dave when he made the comment about Palin’s daughter, finally smile. At that point I hope to come up with some jokes about old Dave that are just as insensitive as the one he make about Palin’s daughter or the confession he made that was taken as a joke by the audience. Who will be laughing then, Dave?
I have a 13 year old granddaughter and I have some thought about what should be done to Roman Polanski. All are unprintable, but none involve forgiving him for the crime he did. Since he won an Oscar after the incident one might have something to do with where that Oscar should be residing.
