Got the poster boards, got the paint, got the sticks to make the signs. My wife and I will be at the Phoenix Tea Party at the State House at 5:30 PM.
So why do this?
The list of things my wife and I are opposed to from the current administration would take far too long to list. So, I condense.
First the taxes. It has been proven already in California and New York that the top 25% can’t support the spending needs of the rest of the population. Ratcheting up the taxes on this group just stifles initiative and reduces the total tax collected. Small business people who are having a hard time now will just lay off more people, shrink operations, or fold. Raising capital gains taxes when investment values are down 40% will just drive them lower. This is not a new idea. Raising spending at the same time, increasing entitlements, and increasing government debt will create a national disaster. We will have California and New York all across America.
Next the spending. Bailouts for all failures. There is not enough money available to this country to bail out all the losers. Then there is the government involvement in everything. Energy, Health care, and education to name the top three. Last, and more onerous, there is the pending cap and tax proposal. This could increase taxes on all American regardless of their income. It could scrap any impact form the government spending bills.
The intrusion of government into every aspect of my life is unacceptable. Government’s role is to protect me. It is not to run my life.
Turning America into a failed socialist state is not in my best interest, my children’s best interest, and for sure my grand kid’s best interest. By the time we get to the grand kid’s the American Dream will be nightmare.
The train is going off the tracks. The engineer is too inexperienced and too ambitious. And too liberal.
We, the silent population who either work or have been trusting of our government to do the right thing, are now no longer trusting or silent.
We will have our voice despite the media.
It will be interesting to see how the mainstream media covers this event on Wednesday. Remember the Million Man March? Extensive coverage except when it came to counting. Remember how upset the organizers got when some media reported there were only 200,000 marchers?
I have no idea what the turnout will be. I have no idea what the mood and level of organization will be at these events. I do believe the turnouts will surprise everyone. Hopefully, even some who have a paid job to report truthfully on events that make news.
We can only hope some change will come from this. Representatives who are up for election in less than two years should certainly take note.
It should be interesting.
If this continues, Texas will revolt and many of the middle states will join in. If this happens I am going to move to one of those states. I do not want to live in a Russian type government, that we are becoming. If this happens what states will be left to bail out Illinois, New York, Michigan, and California and the other liberal states that are broke.
There is a bill winding it’s way thru the general assembly in the state of Illinois to raise our property tax this year by 2% because the schools and parks don’t have enough money . The reason they have to have a bill is because by law they can only raise taxes this year by 2/10’s of 1 percent. What ever became of cutting something. The other question is what will they do next year when the assements for 09 hit???????????
It’s really telling to see the lack of mainstream media coverage of this event. Neither the USA Today nor the Arizona Republic had a mention of Tea Parties. They just can’t say anything bad about their man. Obama’s speech about the tax code is really sleezy.
Bill Robertosn
Bill, your words (and actions) are spot on and inspiring. I am typing this commnet from my family room couch watching Fox News and their coverage of the "Tea Parties"
They were panning the camera across the crowd in Atlanta where Hannity is hosting his show, and a crusty old white bearded fellow had a T-Shirt with the words printed "Obama ain’t my Momma" Hannity noticed it and stopped his interview and let out a chuckle at that moment. Erv’s grandson was sitting next to me and he heard me chuckle before Hannity did and said, "That’s funny daddy!" and I said , "Yes it is son, and I heard it first from Mr. Robertson!" So in our minds you made the national news cene on Tea Pary day. And I’m posting my $.02 about it all right here on your blog, will it be a day to remember?
During commercials, I switch to CNN (Communist News Netowrk) and MSNBC and they STILL don’t get it, it is obvious in less than 1 minute of watching those liberal networks are trying to dis-spell and de-value todays modern day Tea Party ralliies across America, instead of presentintg the news and helping relay the message honset hard wokring folks are trying to get out! Those joker ^%$#@$!!!! How long can we tolerate this mainstream propaganda BS!!! It has to stop!!!!!
Conicidence? I am highly amused about all this is and how one of your neighbors helped inspire Tea Party day, THANK YOU Mr. Rick Santelli!!!! I like that guy!
Lastly, if they ever think they are coming after my guns, I certainly hope you will come visit the Pietschs up in the Canadian Rockies! Erv might be a world away back in Texas, but don’t be fooled, his highpoint in life was when we had a golf cart parked in the garage and could play warm weather golf 9+months a year in Humble, TX. To this day, sometimes when you visit Erv, if you listen very very carefully, you can fainlty hear Dean Martin singing "Going back to Houston, Houston!"
Peach OUT!
Thanks, Bill. Good comments. Big turnout in Phoenix. I’m guessing as many as 5,000. Good crowd. Lot’s of signs.
BIll Robertson
Bill… I was hoping for a little more "reporting" from you on your tea party experience.
Contrary to other posts above, I did see plenty of coverage in the Chicago Tribune of tea parties throughout the country. I would like to suggest that reading a newspaper is a much better way to get a balanced view of the events in our world.
Television, regardless of whether it’s FOX or CNN, just looks for good images whether or not they are good stories. Television news is no match for the printed word. And, I can’t say that I’m surprised that FOXNews would provide extensive coverage of the tea parties…. the were substantially created by FOXNews, as you stated yourself in one of your recent posts. I did see video, sent to me by another conservative friend, from CNN of an "interview" at the Chicago version of the tea party. The CNN reporter asked a man with a picture of Obama’s head superimposed on Hitler’s body with the title "FASCIST" why he thought Obama was a fascist. His answer, repeated several times, was "because he is". It was very convincing!
And, tho many people seem to turn to blogs for news and treat what they read in blogs as news, blogs are almost exclusively opinion and should be viewed as such. That said, I enjoy reading your opinions tho I don’t often agree.
