bsp; current A current survey says 47% of Americans want to drill offshore and in ANWR. That is up from 35% a few months ago. What will it take to move Washington? For the Democrats 99% wouldn’t move them. They now want to stop the Iraqi’s from contracting with Big Oil to get things moving over there. Same guys Shummer, Durbin, and Reid to name a few. They aren’t happy with stopping everything here, they want to stop everything, everywhere. For the Republicans, a bigger gap in the polls between McCain and Obama. That will happen.
Let’s say Senator McCain woke up and realized he has Omama in the trick bag. Tomorrow he runs on the Moonshot Energy Platform. Everything goes. ANWR,offshore,nuclear, coal, tar and shale, refineries, wind, and solar. Do it all. He wins the election and it’s time to move. What happens. Nothing.
A nuclear plant takes four years to build. But, permits and financing takes five. Every state and local government has some issue with every project. It would take an act of congress to override all state and local jurisdiction on all energy projects. Everything would need to be fast tracked for the good of the economy and national security. Could it be done, sure, would it get done, not likely.
The State of Arizona has passed a law that any homeowner who wants to put in solar has a permit. No local government or homeowners association can stop you.
If would require the Federal Emergency Energy Policy Act. The act would have to fast track all designated projects. Land, like military bases would need to be set aside form nuclear plants and refineries. Land for pipelines would need to be taken by federal imminent domain.
The Federal government would need to declare the equivalent of war on our energy mess. A Manhattan Project or Man on the Moon project effort would be needed. It would be done to save the country. If it doesn’t get done, will the country be lost? There is a very good possibility it will.
If it doesn’t get done this way, it won’t get done. Too much time will pass and too much damage will be done.
If you buy into this, you can get the picture about our mess. We are so far away from the first step in this journey that it is hard to see the journey begin. Even today with gasoline at a given $5 this summer states are not allowing companies to drill for natural gas. Solar and wind can’t be done because the power lines must go up to bring the power to where the people are and no one wants that. We are blaming Big Oil and there is no Big Oil anymore. We are blaming speculators and that will keep our eye off the ball for a few months. Obmama has no intention of doing anything to help this mess and he is leading in the polls. McCain is hedging on everything.
Break out the tar and feathers folks, it may take that to run them all out of Washington.
