Sarah Palin is Appealing to Women Voters
July 26th, 2010Why do women like Sarah Palin? She is adding millions of new conservative women voters. What is her appeal?
First discount the elitist women with Harvard degrees and their Harvard wanna be counterparts. Discount the left-wing female journalists who hate her. Discount the female recipients of your redistribution of wealth. Add all of these up and they don’t comprise a very big percentage of the voting female population.
It leaves grandmothers who raised kids and did it on a budget. It leaves working and non-working mothers who are trying to raise a family and make ends meet in a bad economy. It leaves young women just out of college who can’t get a job.
You see women tend to be less risk averse than men. They tend to believe a family and a country should live within it’s means. They don’t like to see red ink in the family budget. They will shop to save. They will clip coupons to stretch the budget. They will sacrifice so the kids can get those trendy shoes. They put family first.
Sarah Palin talks directly to them. They get her message. She has been there, done that. Until she hit the jackpot, she lived modestly. She went to a no name college. She had nothing handed to her. She is raising a family and doing it while she manages her career. She says she will cut government spending and women believe her. They accept she ran a family budget, ran a state budget and kept them balanced. She’s a real mom, a real person, and speaks a language mainstream women understand.
No one in this country, except Barack Obama, is doing more to convert Independent women and Democratic women to the tea party, which is predominately female, and to the conservative movement.
Whether she can gain enough support to run for and be elected president remains to be seen. But, she does show, like Chris Christie in New Jersey that there are millions of Americans who want straight talk. The fancy rhetoric of Obama is passe. No more lies. No more big slogans like Hope and Change.
Speak plainly and carry a big axe. One that will slash the federal government to chips.

Tea Party Supporters are Racist?
July 16th, 2010The NAACP has branded me a racist. I’m an early Tea Party supporter. Playing the race card on me and my fellow Tea Party supporters is unjustified. Michele Obama spoke at the NAACP convention where this resolution was passed and said nothing about this position. She lectured them on diet. We have unemployment, wars, political unrest, an oil leak, and her key topic was diet.
I object to President Obama’s agenda and his performance as our president. It has nothing to do with his color.
It has everything to do with what I believe he is doing to my country. To the futures of my kids and grand kids. Was every black person who didn’t like Bush a racist? What would the NAACP have said if the RNC had suggested that? What would Jesse Jackson have said? Or, Al Sharpton?
I have a pretty good sense of racism. The remarks the head of the New Black Panther Party said about killing crackers and their babies was racist. Obama suggested the police officer who arrested his Harvard friend was racist. He had to have a beer fest to fix that. The pass the Attorney General is giving the Panthers who intimidated the voters in St. Louis has racist undertones.
So, is everyone who doesn’t support Obama a racist?
Eight one percent of Tea Party members are white. That compares with 75% of all Americans. That means 19% of Tea Party supporters are non-white. Are they racist?
I am not naive. I know racism is still a problem in this country. But, I don’t see how branding people racists makes the problem lessen. Or, how letting the Panthers have a pass for intimidating voters helps. Or, the rhetoric about killing crackers is a good idea. On the other hand, Bill Clinton excusing away Byrd’s 20 years in the Klan erases his racism. Byrd isn’t a racist, but I am?
The NAACP is not helping mend fences by painting a large group of Americans who want to exercise their free speech racists. Sorry.

I Wish I Could Be Number One
June 30th, 2010Townhall Magazine published the top 100 people liberals hate the most. As a devoted Tea Party supporter, I’m devastated to find our group is only #7. Come on folks, we can do better. We need to get to the number one spot on this list. We are behind some good company, but our chances for number one must wait until the November elections.
If we do that job right, we should be number one.
Here are some excerpts from that magazine.
As we have watched the ongoing fight in America the Townhall editorial staff compiled a list of the 100 most disliked by the Left.
As Americans despair over the direction of the country, the actions of the Obama administration and the Democratic Congress, and the efforts of the tea party movement, we have noticed a disturbing pattern: the American Left is trashing everyone who dares to stand against them. The more effective the voices that oppose their agenda, the greater the venom the Left spews in their direction.
It’s this out-of-control behavior from our fellow citizens who are sold out to the ultra liberal progressive Obama agenda to “radically transform” the United States that led us to create this list of “The 100 Americans the Left Hates Most.”
The Massive list of those we believe have the largest bull’s-eyes painted on them by the Left and the Democrat-dominated government. From that list, through a process of voting, debating and prioritizing, we assembled the final 100.There were only two absolute requirements:
1) They had to be living, which is why Ronald Reagan and William F. Buckley Jr. are not featured; and 2) they had to be American, which explains Mark Steyn and the Pope’s absence from the list.If you think we’re way off base with some or all of our rankings or believe we missed somebody, please let us know. We want to know what you think, so submit your thoughts to Feedback@Townhall.com.
#7THE TEA PARTY PATRIOT…Or as the snide liberal Left! calls these patriots, “tea baggers. After Obama’s fevered supporters vaulted him into office this group of self motivated, God Fearing people have done him great damage by doing what the mainstream media refuses to do, expose his agenda. The Left literally hates this group.
The tea party movement has presented a significant roadblock for the president’s progressive agenda. This boisterous bunch of impassioned patriots has helped the political climate quickly
From a minute Facebook group to a mass movement of millions, the tea party movement is driven by American tradition and is focused on resurrecting the nation’s historical promise. They are everything from self-educated commonsense patriots who love God, guns and Old Glory.
As this grassroots movement continues to grow, liberals know they don’t stand a chance—their agenda cannot stand up to the greatness of America’s founding and the citizens who will stand to defend it.
Rally, fellow Tea Partiers. We need to be number one. Collectively, we have to be more despised than the current number one, Glen Beck, or even number two, you guessed it, Sarah Palin.

Tea Party Amuses Obama
April 17th, 2010Recent polls show that over 20% of Americans support the tea party movement. President Obama says the movement amuses him. He says he has lowered taxes. Another bit of untruth from our president. He has raised taxes $600 billion with more promised. Let’s see how amused this president is in November.
Even Bill Clinton piled on equating tea party people with the Oklahoma bombing.
I am so pleased that this effort to marginalize the tea party movement is the strategy of leading Democrats.
Tea party people are made up of mainstream Americans. Better educated, older, higher incomes, and previously content to stay silent. No longer content to watch as Obama tries to turn America into France.
The abject stupidity of the Democrats is refreshing. They will lose 40-50 House seats and 8-10 Senate seats in November if they do no more damage between now and November. But, they can’t resist. Bill Clinton may attack the tea party, but Hillary won’t. Hillary is seeing opportunity in 2012. How many Americans today look back and say Hillary would have been an improvement.
Keep up the good work, President Obama. As I have noted in this blog, you are losing your media friends. You are losing your party. You will lose control of Congress. You have lost Israel. You have China upset. You have even lost your far left wing nuts.
Soon, Mr. President, all you will have left is your beloved unions, your Hollywood friends(Israel may hurt that), academia, loony environmentalists, and Rahm Emanuel.
Good luck with the last two years of your term and in the 2012 election.

952 BLogs Later
August 24th, 2010I went back and counted the blog entries I’ve written since I started this gig. It’s 952 counting this one. I started this project for one reason and one reason only. For five years I’ve felt the American Dream was slipping away. At that time almost no one would listen. Today, I hear that comment once a week. I would say this to friends and family members and get the eye roll. It’s just Bill spouting politics.
Until I got this epiphany I was not a political person. Like most of my generation, I felt we hired politicians to do their work and they should do what we hired them to do. I spent 34 years in the energy business. I knew when it came to energy, they had no clue. They had chased the dream of a green energy world for 20 years and the end result was more and more dependency on foreign crude and billions wasted. I extrapolated that into the rest of their work and got the same result.
Incompetent politicians were taking on more and more of the responsibility of running our lives and future with the same result. All while we watched it happen. It seemed most people like me didn’t care. Then I began to care. As a concerned senior with kids and grand kids, I needed to care. I saw what the incompetents were doing to diminish the future opportunities for my kids and grand kids.
I knew nothing about blogging. I didn’t know what a blog was and had never read a blog, so I began to read some. I found a do-it-yourself service, Square Space, and put together a blog. Grandparents of America Awaken. As I continued to produce blogs, I sought some advice. Square Space was not user friendly. So, I switched to this service with the new title, No Smoke Blown. It was easier to work with and gave me the opportunity to produce a more professional product and seek a bigger audience.
Writing a daily blog forced me to read more and learn more about world we live in and the workings of our country. It made me think about things more. It pushed me into the world of political thinking. More importantly, it gave me a bully pulpit to try to convince more and more of my generation to do the same.
Since that first blog things in this country have gotten worse. Much worse, But, as the tea party movement shows, more and more of us are getting involved in trying to turn the country in a different direction before we bottom out. This change inspires me to keep blogging.
I’m thinking the 1,000 mark is becoming a target spot to end this. If the fall elections go as predicted, the need for this seems less urgent. We are beginning to re-take out country from the fools and scoundrels who have tried to destroy the outlook for future generations. That was always my goal and it seems to be within reach.
Hopefully, doing this has inspired some of you who have read this blog to realize the threat we face. It’s not about Democrats and Republicans, it is hard to pick a winner in either group. It’s about abuse of power and the election and re-election of incompetent candidates. It’s about a central government that wants to grow. It’s about out-of-control spending and bad choices. It’s about special interest groups that don’t have the best interests of this country in mind, but still call the shots. It’s about term limits and corruption. It’s about the loss of common sense in Washington, state governments, and local city halls. But, most importantly, it’s about my kids and grand kids.
My kids are too busy raising their kids to notice. My grand kids are too young to have a voice. So, it may fall on our shoulders, the grandparents to unretire and get active.
Writing checks doesn’t get it done. When the group that is supposed to represent us, our lobbyist, the AARP, supports Obamacare and this week said they would support major changes in social security, including reductions in payments to protect the future payments. We need a new lobbyist. The AARP, run by flaming left-wing liberals has gone native. If you still belong, you are being misled.
So, I slog and blog away. Hoping to do something to keep you informed about the misguided direction we are taking. If you do nothing, please think about what you can do to make a difference. You owe that much to your own kids and grand kids.
