NBC and Comcast
December 4th, 2009It looks like the sale of NBC to Comcast by GE will happen. There may be objections by the government using anti-trust as the basis. But, more than likely it will happen.
I believe Comcast will go into direct competition with Fox News with far more balanced news coverage.
GE has used NBC to lobby for their direct purposes. Especially MSNBC. Their future lies with green energy and health care reform. They have shown unfair and unbalanced reporting to influence public support for both.
The NBC and MSNBC new personnel had better dust up their resumes. The only way Comcast can change the culture at both stations is to completely purge the staff. They can’t adjust their left wing ideologies to fit a more balanced format. Expect the majority to be sent packing.
Comcast, unlike GE, has no ulterior agenda for running these businesses. They will be profit driven. With a business perspective the Comcast strategy will be to leave the 20% far left wing market to the other stations and go after the 80% market which is tired of biased reporting. They will do well. Fox will find a new competitor with the Comcast version of NBC.
This is just the first of a trend we will see in the media business in the next few years. Fighting for a 20% market is causing the other media sources to lose money. It’s simple survival.
This should be a refreshing start to a growing trend.
The Federal Government will be torn on this deal. GE has a lock on the current administration and wants this to happen. This should out weigh their concern for another media giant that doesn’t pander to the administration. Tough call, but GE will out.

Media Obsession Obama’s Big Priority
October 22nd, 2009Lily Tomlin once said: “being cynical is hard, there’s not enough time.” I’m trying really hard not to be cynical about much of the White House preoccupation about Fox News and the rest of the media that doesn’t sing from their choir book. Glen Beck is paranoid about it. Bill O’Reilly is perplexed. Dennis Miller is cynical.
How can a president who is falling apart in the ratings, has accomplished nothing in nine months, can’t make a decision on troops in Afghanistan, and can’t close Gitmo, find over 2 hours to meet with the left-wing media to talk strategy for dealing with the enemy?(Fox,Limbaugh) Why is this so important? Is it vanity and ego? Is it controlling the message? Is it spinning the lack of accomplishments through the media messages? You pick, but in fairness, I can’t think of one good positive reason for this meeting. Why should the president and his top advisers care if there are some who disagree with him? Poor President Bush had far more reason to care since he was under attack every day, but couldn’t or didn’t find the time to care.
I have a sincere concern that controlling the media message is top priority for this White House. And, the environment couldn’t be better for them to do just that. There are ideas being floated to make the media not-for-profit organizations. This is pre-planning to save those like the New York Times from extinction. They are far down the road to bankruptcy. If the only road to salvation runs through the White House, are you ever going to not do the bidding of the occupant of the White House? You control the media, you control the country.
Here’s my take. President Obama himself may not feel this is how he should be spending two hours of his scarce time this week. But, he is not calling the shots. Rahm Emmanuel and David Axlerod set the priorities. I believe Emmanuel is both insane and evil. His past record would support both charges. Axlerod is manipulative and very smart. After all, he got a community organizer elected president. The two of them want zero dissent in any media here in this country and they will do whatever it takes to insure that. They will use the full power of the FCC to limit any disagreement to their agenda. They have zero regard for any First Amendment Right, or any other Constitutional rights. They have their own version of the Constitution and it’s patterned after other Socialist movements that immediately shut off free speech as one of the first steps to eliminating dissent.
This is serious business and the hands that pull the puppet’s strings are not the kinds of hands we are accustomed to in this country. The media has never been more vulnerable to manipulation than they are today. They are dying by the numbers. Others are on life support. To quote Rahm Emmanuel, “never let a good catastrophe go to waste.” So, if you are the lifeline for the mainstream media who are going down for the third time, why not just tell them what to say. How can they do otherwise?
Losing free speech in America is not good. Letting government dictate to the press what they should say is not good. If I’m wrong, I apologize, but I can’t find a logical reason for all the concern about reasonable debate by media sources that dare to disagree with the President. Can you?

The Big Time Out
June 14th, 2009Don’t you wonder what all these people are doing?
The comics who zing the presidents. They have been mute since January 21st. Is it because we have a black president? Or, is it because all of them, like David Letterman are flaming left wingers and they just can’t tell a joke about the man who will lead us to the great world of failed Socialism?
The media people who are paid to find and expose wrongs. They are obviously on vacation, since no more has been heard about the Pelosi situation. Remember, how the CIA lied. Guess they are all on leave. Have you read anything about what it will cost to close Gitmo? Little bits about an obscure island called Palau, Koror. Obama plans to ship a few Uighurs to Palau. The island has a population of 20,000 year round residents. Suddenly, the US, which has been quietly giving this island $20 million annually will now give them $200 million. Their GDP is $157 million. Isn’t this a nice prize to take a few bad guys and put them in a place just like Gitmo. Someone should be keeping score on this for the public? No one does, all on time out.
How much will all the czars cost? Wouldn’t you think the media would be all over this? Putting a pencil to how much each czar is costing the taxpayer. Since we’ve never had czars, we should know what this new earmark is costing and what is being accomplished. Guess all those people are on vacation.
Universal Health Care is the hot topic. Shouldn’t media people be reporting how this is working in places like the UK and Canada? On vacation, all of them.
What’s happening in Iraq and Afghanistan? When Bush was being set-up for the big Republican demise, every media type was in Iraq reporting how bad it was going for us? All on vacation, since it appears it’s going equally bad in Afghanistan right now. Not news anymore.
Let’s see if I understand this strange phenomena. The press and TV news ratings are all down dramatically, except for Fox News. Many newspapers are out of business with more to follow including the New York Times. Advertising and ratings are down on network news and most cable news channels. So, they decide right in the midst of losing revenue and viewers that everything Obama is off limits. No hard news. Gee, if all I report is drivel, wonder why I’m going out of business?
Do they think we are so dumb, we won’t notice? Since 600,000 people called the 800 number to ask why their TVs went off Saturday, I guess many won’t notice. Are those of who do get it are so apathetic we do nothing to show we notice? That’s what they are betting the rest of the little farm they have left. You see in their minds only the elitists know what they are doing and the rest of us don’t see the ruse.
I do see it, and I hope you do also. I’m boycotting all CBS shows until Letterman apologizes and gets taken off the air just like Imus did. I’ve written the network and Governor Palin. I hope more of you will. Go to firedavidletterman.com and you can get addresses and phone numbers for all the groups involved. CBS personnel, advertisers for the Letterman Show, etc. They plan a protest at the theatre tomorrow night. I just know one thing, if Letterman had said something like that about my 13 year old granddaughter he would be in dire need of medical attention. I find everything about it offensive and CBS needs to do what the Imus network did to him. Fire the man. Imus made his comment off the cuff and Letterman rehearsed his.
Even local news is off duty. One local station in Chicago did an expose on the Chicago Streets and Sanitation Department. They followed four supervisors around and none did any work the day they were followed. That was very good work. The city is cutting a few employees. This same local station did a 5 minute coverage of the union protests about the layoffs and it was all supportive of the poor people being laid off. Not a word about the previous report documenting that this department has loafers.
Millions of workers across the country packed their boxes and were escorted out of their offices and went quietly. It is hard for the media to report the current unemployment numbers even though it’s big news. But, this group, which was documented by the same station as shirkers, puts on a protest and gets sympathy. Gee, I wonder why they didn’t get mine.
And so it goes, the spinning continues. Keep your mind open and listen carefully and you might notice the big time out is on for the exalted one. When that changes, I will be amazed. I think more papers and TV stations will be long gone before the rest go back to work.

NBC Led the Attack on Sarah Palin’s Intellect
January 17th, 2010Even now as she took on a new assignment at Fox News, the other networks trashed the move. No one does it better than NBC. Charlie Gibson started this work. Then, Tina Fey piled on . MSNBC is toxic to Palin.
It’s always the same criticism. She isn’t up to snuff in the brains department. NBC people seem to think they are the creme de la creme in progressive, liberal, urbane intellect. Let’s see where they get that idea.
First, let’s look at where they stand in the big media ratings sweepstakes. Fourth. Once they were first, now fourth. Guess all those brains must be misfiring since viewers keep deserting.
Recently, we saw how really smart they are. They moved Jay Leno to prime time, gave the Tonight Show to Conan O’Brien on a five year contract. Put Jimmy Fallon in Conan’s spot. Leno bombed. Local NBC news affiliates complained they were losing millions since Leno had poor ratings and it carried into the local news.
NBC is being sold by GE to Comcast. Guess even GE couldn’t make NBC work despite all the genius employees at NBC. One, Jeff Zucker, the new President, got promoted for his fine work in taking NBC to fourth place and dropping. Zucker must be one of those people who are so much smarted than Palin.
Zucker decided he would put Jay back at 11:35 and put the Tonight Show on at 12:05. Conan told him to pound sand. So, Conan will leave and NBC will pay himĀ $20 millionĀ to be able to keep Jay and move him back where he was until he retires or completely loses his audience in a few years. Wow, I’m so impressed with the intellectual horsepower at NBC. You are fully justified in your insults of Palin’s brains.
But, NBC doesn’t have any shows to replace Jay at 11:00. The Winter Olympics will do it for a while. But, get this the current estimates say NBC will lose $200 million on the Winter Olympics. Gee, so many smart people at NBC.
After settling with NBC, Conan will go to Fox against Jay. He will take the young audience with him. Soon, Jay’s audience will be too old to stay up that late and he will go.
It’s all academic anyway, since Comcast will fire most of the so-called brains at NBC and MSNBC and replace them with people like Sarah Palin who live in the real world and can run things.
In the end, Sarah, who has turned everything she touched to gold, will have the last laugh.
All those effete snob pseudo intellectuals at NBC will be gone and the network will be like Fox and Fox News and employees will be there to make the company money not espouse ideology or trash regular folks like Sarah Palin.
Advice to the NBC people put out of work by the Comcast deal. Go to work for the government. You can be an effete pseudo intellectual snob and not be expected to get results. It’s the ideal situation for all of you.
