It has been so important across the country to have diversity in the workplace. It should be particularly so at the university level since the young minds of our children and grand children are placed in the custody of the faculty during a critical time in their development. Does diversity include political affiliations? Evidently not.
Universities have been adding minorities and women to the rolls of their faculty over the years just like all business has done. We all suspect it must be a lonely place for a conservative to work. Or, for a conservative student to learn.
Dan Lawton, a journalism student at the University of Oregon decided to do some research and write an article for the the school paper about this question. Dan’s research showed there were 111 registered Democrats and 2 Republicans in the schools of journalism, law, sociology, and economics. The two Republicans were in the school of law and one was the University President. The president, Dave Frohnmayer fostered a Diversity Plan in 2006. That plan was intended to help the “individual learn to question critically, think logically, and communicate clearly” It included political diversity as one of the elements to promote. Well, President Frohnmayer, you aren’t going t like your grade on that mission.
More research showed 96% of political contributions went to Democrats in 2008, in 2004, 100%. Guess the former president was a liberal.
So, the budding journalist published his story in the university paper, and you can predict the outcome. He was vilified by the faculty. One professor confronted him telling him he was personally offended by the article. Told him “if you like conservatism you can certainly attend the University of Texas and you can walk past the statue of Jefferson Davis everyday on your way to class”. Another said, “You think you’re so (expletive) cute with your little column” she said, “I read your piece and all your want is attention. You’re just like Bill O’Reilly. You just want t get up on your (expletive) soapbox and have people look at you.”
In this sea of liberalism that exists on every campus today how does a student from a conservative family not get the Stockholm Syndrome? You know the one where prisoners sympathize with their captors? If a university like Oregon really wanted to add political diversity to the faculty how could they do that with tenure?
How did the conservatives in America let this happen, and how do they do anything to fix the unfairness? Do you demand your kid’s university of choice have political diversity? If you did, would that limit the choice to the University of Texas? I have a feeling if a student at the UofT did a similar piece of research, it might not be so different.
What would the ACLU do if 98% of all faculty in America were liberals? There would already be a case before the Supreme Court mandating the diversity in education.
What makes conservatives so complacent? Why did we let liberals take over key jobs like media, university professors, and entertainment without a care?
We missed the grand plan. It was a patient plan. It has stretched over 80 years. Now, we see the results.
We are about to enjoy the benefits of living in a Socialist country. It is a brilliant plan. One that couldn’t happen without Obama. The Kennedy, Gore, Kerry boys couldn’t pull it off. It’s being pulled off now. And, a key part of the plan is to brainwash the youth of America about the joys of liberal socialism. In some cases the brainwashing lasts only a few years until our sons or daughters get a real job and find they might be in the minority with left leanings. In other cases(Chris) it lasts a lifetime.

Really? What a vast left wing conspiracy theorist you have become!! So now American colleges and universities, ones that people all over the world try to get into, are part of a plot to brainwash students?? You have really outdone yourself this time!
I am a college graduate and have a Master’s Degree, so I’ve attended my fair share of college classes. I can honestly say that I had no idea of the political affiliations of my professors. Why would it come up? Why would I care?
Are there multitudes of unemployed conservative professors out there looking for work?
Come on…. why don’t you accept the relatively simple explaination that there are more liberals in academia because more liberals choose to persue careers in academia. It wouldn’t fit the conservative view of persecution that you are trying to promote but it’s a more likely explaination.

I was just trying to understand how you became such a liberal. With the Stockholm Syndrome one doesn’t know he turned his allegiance to his captors. Interestingly, the great state of Oregon, home of assisted suicide and still holding out on self-serve gasoline, is almost broke. It might be a place you would like to raise your family, since few would disagree with your politics, or a place to send MJ to school. Sorry you don’t get the connection between 98% of the faculty voting Democrat and a lack of diversity. If 98% were old white guys would that help you get the drift.
