It’s been 366 days and 366 blog entries. A commitment kept. It is a big time commitment. Did it accomplish anything? Probably not. But, it forced me to be more involved in events that may have a serious negative impact on my six grand kids. There is no ulterior motive for this work. No ads, no revenue. Just hope that somehow I might inspire some readers to get involved in events that shape the future. 

For those of you who read this blog regularly, thanks for your time and your comments. They have inspired me to plod ahead and keep the ideas flowing. For those of you who visit occasionally, but keep your comments to yourselves,thanks to all of you. Every day the total of readers, new readers, and robots that hit the blog based on key words grow.. That, more than anything keeps me going. This month is an all time  record high in all areas. While small in numbers compared to the big guys in blogging, they keep growing. I hope that is somewhat due to the quality of work.

To make the commitment for another year, I need to step up the work. In addition to writing a daily blog, I plan to work on the quality of the blog. And, as a life long marketer, I will work on getting new customers. It’s a different type of marketing, but I’m starting to figure it out.

I truly believe we are doing damage to our future. I blame some personally and have mentioned them by name numerous times in the past year. But, there is ample blame to go around. We grandparents missed some things we should have done raising our children. We did not stress the importance of their involvement in civic duties. We watched as they became the Now Generation. The biggest generation of consumers in the history of the world.  Buy it now, borrow to get it, don’t save for the rainy days that have come now. Their children, our grandchildren, know nothing else. We have been watchers. Apathetic and trusting. Letting others who are involved take over and make bad decisions. Decisions that have put us in this hole and ones that will make the hole even worse for the grand kids. A generation not prepared to deal with holes. 

I have tried to work harder to be involved the past year. In additions to writing the blog, I met with my congressman, Peter Roskum, to air my positions. I gave him printed copies of my blog. I know he and his staff must continue to read it, since his solicitation requests stopped. I made the maximum contribution to his campaign, then told him of my regrets when he backed off his commitments to me. Told him in the blog. Someone read it because I’m not on Peter’s list anymore.

I’ve been involved in the work of Grassfire, Newt Gingrich and his Drill, Drill Here, Drill Now campaign. Contributors to both in money and ideas. I have followed my own advice in this blog. More letters to elected officials, more petitions signed, more reading and thinking about our future. 

When I started this blog a year ago, things were not so bad. The mortgage crisis was just heating up and the crude oil bubble was blowing. My personal involvement in this process has saved me lots of money. As I have written in the blog, I’ve dodged the worst of the market decline because my research for this blog made me more informed about thing like the mortgage mess and I felt it was huge. 

My concern for the future of my grand kids is greater now than it was a year ago. The run on guns in this country is not a good sign. People are truly worried about civil unrest. I’m not there yet, but I’m close. 

I’m not a writer, author, or journalist, I’m just an old retired marketer. But, I’m doing the best I can to create something that will provoke thought and action. We marketers always learn to say: thank you for your business.
